"My husband and I had always wanted to live on the water. When it came time to look, pricing for lake property was too high for our budget, so we found a beautiful home with a 1/3-acre pond – our own private lake. We noticed in the first summer that our pond always seemed to be at a lower level than everyone else’s. It really bothered us that we could not figure out why. Then we hit a few summers of drought periods. Last summer was the lowest the water had ever been. By chance we happened to find field tiles that whoever dug our pond neglected to remove. At last we had found out why our level always dropped so badly. Now what to do about it? We had a couple estimates of over $3,000 for someone to dig up our lawn and remove the pipes with a backhoe.
